“It’s just one last bump before spring,”she said. “Ok,” I thought sarcastically to myself. We all know that’s not gonna happen.

Happy spring everybody! It was literally a snow globe in Asheville today. You know, like when the little kid keeps shaking it and their parent’s like, “ok you can stop now hunny; it’s not that entertaining.” But they didn’t stop and it just kept snowing, but it has not stuck at all. Pretty cool really. One last hurrah before spring actually begins.

Not a whole lot car related today aside from that I bought some oil (mobile 1 ep full syn 10w30). Which is what I prefer if it’s on sale at the time. But what is slightly interesting, is the oil filter I got. I finally decided to try the oversized filter that fits Miatas. It’s an inch longer and 40% more filtration (according to flyin Miata). So we’ll see how that goes. Shouldn’t be any downside. What are other Miata driver’s running around here? I’ve talked to a few of you... I know you’re here!

Before I change my oil I was gonna get some sea foam (or equivalent). Never done it before, but my engine could definitely use less carbon build up. Any tips?

Wix filter (oversized), 0w-40 whatever is cheapest. I like Mobil oil but... Their bottles leak like crazy after they’re opened!

Nice have you run both sized oil filters? Purolator boss (which I prefer) came as a deal with 5 qts mobile 1 ep and there is a rebate going on through mobile 1’s site (as seen on Oppo... can’t remember who posted but thanks!). So paid like $15 assuming the rebate goes through!

No, I’ve done the big one since getting the car so I can’t really compare! Might be completely unnecessary, but I figure it can’t hurt. Need to change oil now actually but I’m waiting on a sandwich plate for some sensors and don’t feel like changing my oil twice in one week...

What year is yours?

Yeah that makes sense. Mine is a 96 M. Yours is a 95 right?

Fancy! Was it the 95 m or 96 m that had the unique adjustable headrests? Yep, 95

That was the 95... the interior isn’t quite as cool as m’s past, and the wheels while making it look mini fd-esq are the heaviest (or maybe tied with the original steels) wheels fitted to any NA. BUT that starlight blue mica is f-ing gorgeous (when clean lol). Need to wash her so bad.

So I switched from the OEM hollow spokes (lightest or 2nd lightest) to 15x8 6uls. Dropped a bit weight while gaining an insane amount of traction and handling prowess. It was very noticeable

But you.... Oh man. Starting with the heaviest OEM wheel is fantastic! When you get a lighter wheel the difference will be so freaking huge

I would have sent the hollow spokes your way for the cost of shipping, but I ended up giving them away just a month ago :/

Aww man would have been awesome. But yeah I am definitely excited for some light wheels! I know how big a difference that is from when I switched from steel to aluminum on my tj (previous car). You like those 6uls? Those are the ones 949 sells right?

I don’t love the looks but as far as function goes they are fantastic. Yes, the 949 Racing ones

Yeah I know they are one of if not the lightest wheels for Miatas... I’m looking at enkei’s so as to stay with factory brand (my stock wheels are enkei’s).

My hollow spokes were Enkei’s as well! You’ve probably seen it already but if not...

I had seen it a while ago, but forgot that the steelies were 3.5 lbs heavier that my enkei’s that’s not quite as embarrassing haha.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Miata with the stock steelies?

If it wasn’t for the price, I’d be all over these. Would be great winter wheels

You mean you don’t want to drop 2k on some wheels? Weird. No, but those are pretty sick, and give an almost rally look (at least with the white)... I guess I just associate white spokeless wheels with rally.

The only downsides I know of are that you need to add a little bit more oil than in the manual and it’s a little bit more weight in the front of the car. Besides that, it’s mostly positives.

Haha yeah I’m gonna feel that gram of extra weight. But I’ll have to report back with results if I notice any.
